Dr. Heidi Rice is a dedicated small animal veterinarian who earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine through Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She holds a Master of Science in Biology from Eastern Michigan University, where she studied the ecology of bat species on the islands of Lake Michigan at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Before pursuing her veterinary degree, Dr. Rice completed her undergraduate studies in Zoology at Michigan State University and worked in environmental education with a non-profit conservation organization.
Dr. Rice is originally from Michigan and practiced on the East Coast before moving back to the Midwest in 2012 to be back closer to friends and family. She has a deep love for all animals and a passion for veterinary medicine, which is evident in her philosophy: “I love every part of this job. I feel extremely privileged to be part of this amazing profession and strive to help each and every patient as if they were my own.”
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Rice enjoys traveling, having studied veterinary medicine in India and the ecology of the Galapagos Islands during her graduate school years. She also enjoys riding and has two horses trained in dressage. Her other interests include skiing, reading, and spending time with her pets, including her Norwegian Elkhound Elsa, and her two spoiled cats Leo and Rue.
