Limited Series Part III – FAQs about Pharmacy

Last week we announced some transitions in our team.  This week’s installment of this limited series covers topics related to obtaining medications.  As always, please contact us using the information below if you have any questions, or if there is anything else we can do for you.

The FAQs of Pharmacy

What is a good way to buy medications online?

MyVetStoreOnline.pharmacy is also accessible from https://store.jvc.vet.  Our purpose in establishing this store is to provide a reliably sourced, competitively priced option to have your pet’s medications shipped directly to your home or stable.

💲 This is the best price we can make available to you.  It often costs less than medications we keep in the clinic for immediate availability (medically urgent care or convenience).

Additional bonus to you:

Additional benefits for us:

  • Our team gets to spend more time caring for pets and less time chasing paperwork & playing phone tag to approve orders from outside online pharmacies.

⚠ It helps to be aware of these things:

  • Autoship orders expire. We can only approve autoships through the end of the patient’s VCPR (see below).  After the last one has shipped, you will need to log in and place the order again.
  • When ordering a product, you don’t need to wait for a prescription to place your order. We verify the order and will approve the prescription at the time of the order.
  • Prescriptions are specific to a patient. Please order under the correct patient’s name.

What if I want to shop somewhere else?

If it’s still your preference to buy someplace else, we will make a written prescription available at your appointment or for pick up at a later date. However, as of August 1st, 2021, we are no longer directly communicating with non-affiliated online pharmacies and do not approve prescriptions via fax/phone/email/portal.

What is a VCPR?

www.janssenvetclinic.com/vcpr/

According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), “the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) is the essential basis for interaction among veterinarians, their clients, and their patients.  It is critical to providing quality veterinary care and vital to animal welfare by allowing a veterinarian to regularly assess a pet’s entire physical status, family environment, and to regularly communicate with the owner.”

For Janssen Veterinary Clinic patients, a current VCPR means that our veterinarians have evaluated the patient and performed routine (non-emergency) services within the past 12 months.

A current VCPR is required for Prescription refills.

A current VCPR is required for Equine Emergency Service.

What is your policy on Medication Returns?

Due to State and Federal Law, prescriptions are NON-returnable items.  Please verify the medications you are picking up before leaving the building.

  • Donated drugs: While we appreciate your generosity, we cannot use donated drugs or dispense them to patients.
  • Disposal: We are not a registered drug collection site.  Please refer to FDA.gov for information on Drug Take Back Locations.
