Here we are again with another installment in our limited series. Last time we talked about Prescriptions, Medications, and the Veterinary Client Patient Relationship (VCPR).  This week, we’ll start off with another place where the VCPR is important:  Emergencies!

After hours emergencies

Equine emergencies are covered by Janssen Veterinarians 24/7/365 for previously established patients with a current VCPR

  • Please call the clinic. The answering service will relay your message to the veterinarian on call and your call will be promptly returned. 
  • If, at a previous time, you have acquired a DVM’s personal mobile number, DO NOT attempt to contact the veterinarian directly during an emergency. You may not be reaching out to the on-call doctor and your response time will be slowed.

Small animal emergencies are handled by your choice of several Urgent Care or Emergency facilities with whom we have close working relationships.  Please see the emergency information on our website https://www.janssenvetclinic.com/emergency/ or call the clinic & the answering service will direct you.

What is the Equine Emergency Haul-in Policy?

It is always best that horses come to the clinic for emergency care. Please understand that we are asking clients to always be prepared to haul-in their horse, especially when the horse’s location is greater than 30 minutes from the practice. Most times we can meet a request for a farm call, but we do expect clients to have haul-in options as part of an emergency plan.
